Joe began his professional career in San Francisco, CA, working for a law firm and practicing environmental litigation beginning in 2001. Joe assisted on several cases in the State of California courts, and also appeared in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California, as well as the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. In 2003, Joe achieved a lifelong goal and was hired by the U.S. Secret Service as a Special Agent, working out of the San Francisco Field Office. Joe investigated a wide variety of fraud cases, threat cases involving U.S. Secret Service protectees, and was assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. In 2009, Joe earned an operator position on the Secret Service Counter Assault Team, and moved to Washington D.C. where he provided tactical support to the President, Vice President, and other Secret Service protectees who traveled to high threat regions around the world. In 2013, Joe was assigned to the Presidential Protective Division, covering the President, his family, and his administration. At the end of 2016, Joe returned back to his home area, and was assigned to the Chicago Field Office, where he began investigating cyber fraud. Joe’s squad as a group was a Finalist for the 2018 Homeland Security and Law Enforcement Team of the Year at the Chicago Federal Executive Board Honors. During his last three years with Secret Service, Joe supervised the Chicago Cyber Fraud Task Force, leading all cyber-related investigations in the office, overseeing the in-house forensic lab, and coordinating the public-facing portion of the Cyber Fraud Task Force, a Chicago-based group comprised of both public and private sector companies and agencies. Towards the end of 2025, Joe retired from government service, and began anew at BDO, currently serving as Director of Cybersecurity within BDO Digital. Joe remains licensed as an Attorney in the State of California, and is CISSP and C-CISO certified.
