Derek Volmering is a Principal Information Security Engineer at Fifth Third Bank with 15 years of experience across IT, risk, and cybersecurity. His career has spanned IT audit, enterprise vulnerability management, cloud-native security, detection and response, security automation, and the secure adoption of emerging technologies. This broad background gives him a practical perspective on balancing innovation, security, and risk in complex enterprise environments.

Derek is currently helping Fifth Third adapt to an agentic development era, exploring how security must evolve as AI agents change how software is designed, built, and operated, while continuing to advance the security of cloud-native technologies.

Outside of his day job, Derek serves as the Cincinnati Deputy Team Lead for the Ohio Cyber Reserve, supporting public-sector cybersecurity assessments, incident response readiness, and workforce development. He holds an MBA from the University of Cincinnati and certifications including CISSP, CCSP, AWS Certified AI Practitioner, and multiple GIAC credentials.
